Declaring a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies
To declare a major you must have earned 30 semester hours, have a 2.0 (C) grade point average (GPA), and completed English 1000 and 1100 (or the Watauga College equivalent). Go to the General Studies Academic Advising Center, 101 D.D. Dougherty to declare your major. It is not necessary to make an appointment.
If you are declaring a self-designed major, you must meet with the IDS Department Chair and sign a contract before going to 101 D.D. Dougherty and declaring your major.
All students enter Appalachian through the General Studies Office. Although you may have indicated a major preference on your application or during Orientation, you are not officially in that major until you meet the three requirements listed above and sign a paper to declare your major.
